November 1916 Sarcee Camp, Calgary, Canada WWI

I apologize for posting these photos out of sequence, but I was only recently able to verify that they were taken at Sarcee Camp. [The photographs below are labeled North Guard at Sacer Camp. The camp name is actually Sarcee Camp , which was outside of Calgary, Canada. In 1915 it became the largest training camp in western Canada to prepare troops before sending them to the front lines of WWI. This camp was in essence a mini city. To this day they are still uncovering unexploded military shells that were buried in the ground. Active Service Somewhere in France (near Neuve Eglise, Belgium] 3 Jun 1917 My dear mother: Several letters and three bundles of papers arrived the same week. Have not received any parcels yet. Mail is coming thru better. Would be advisable to put the address on the papers twice in case one should be torn off. We have sufficient food here. Really an improvement over what was received in England. Weather is ideal. Plenty cool enough at nights to rest well. Getting used to camp life. It is not half bad. Only afraid I'll forget what a chair is made for and try and sit on the floor. With love to you and father. 4 Oct 1917 My dear mother: Received your letter and the Post. Expect the magazines will arrive shortly. I heard from Alex last week, presume he is down below somewhere. Said he enjoyed his stay in England. Met some of the boys from Aunt Lena's home and believe me it seemed good to see some real men again. There has not been any chance for complaint about the weather for some time. Ideal summer. Played two more ball games which served to break the monotony somewhat. Located back where things are quiet. I have not written to Lelia for some time but I hope you will remember me to her when you write to her. Will be glad to get the magazines. By the way don't forget my Masonic dues. Well, will say good night mother with all my love, I am always ...
